The last session

Last Thursday, I imparted my last lesson with the children. I have to admit that it was a really emotional class because I knew that it was my last session as a teacher trainee. Moreover, I also knew that, after all these things, everything I would do would be done by me as a being a teacher.

The session was divided in two parts. In the first one, pupils realized a little written exam that consisted in filling gaps related to the song “Mr Monkey Man”. In the second one, children realized a little oral test that consisted in singing a part of the song.

Afterwards, I told them to value my intervention during the five sessions, trying to explain what they had learnt and what they would have changed about the lessons. In a specific moment, Leire asked me if it was possible to make a drawing in order to let me have a memory of them all; so, when they finished giving me an assessment, they also made me a drawing.

The last sessions

The end of my staying at the school is getting close and, as a consequence, the end of my sessions.  Last week Sarah visited me, coinciding with my third session. Truthfully, things didn’t go bad, but if I have to be honest, it was one of the moments in my life when I was really nervous.

On Thursday I did the fourth session, which followed others tonic: reviewing what we had done previously, talking about what we would work on that session and starting the class. It went quite good and kids had a lot of fun.

Next week is going to be my last session with kids. I’m going to do a ‘mini evaluation’  to finish my classes realising what pupils have learnt. Moreover, it will also allow them to see how their evaluation process has been in the learning.

Sincerely, I’m a little bit sad because, if it was for me, I would spend all the year helping teachers and staying with the kids. But as I know that it is not possible for the moment, I’m still more excited for finishing my degree and being able to work in the most beautiful job in the world: teaching.

Carnival

After some hard-working weeks with the elaboration of the custom, the big day finally arrived: Carnival.

This year, Sant Marc’s school’s pupils have dressed up as Fairies and Imps. Infants have had to design their own customs and this has made us to use some of our class hours to finish the custom. However, the effort has had its worth because the final result is very nice and funny.

The parade with the kids has been fantastic. Firstly, we have been to Cal Bassacs to let people from this urban colony enjoy the customs. Afterwards, we have gone to Gironella by bus to continue the party there. We have been walking through the town’s villages for a while and then we have stopped at Gironella’s plaza, where kids have been able to have breakfast and see a show that Gironella’s parties’ commission had prepared for them.

I must admit that I have had a lot of fun both with the parade and the elaboration of kids’ custom. Although we haven’t realized a perfect job with the custom, being able to see pupils’ satisfaction and parents’ one at seeing their sons/daughters satisfaction has allowed me that all effort has been worth at all.

Second and Third weeks

The second and the third weeks have really been very good for me, the involvement from teachers is really big and it is reflected in pupils’ result and in their daily working in class. 

Last week we celebrated the international Peace day, and I have to recognize that it was a very fantastic and emotional moment. Each group prepared a little representation, where different issues related to Peace where represented by taking, as point of reference, a character that had received a Nobel award. It was really a very entertaining morning where it could be seen how all the school got united to row to same direction. 

This week I’m going to start with my intervention with kids, I’m very excited and I’m also looking forward to seeing their reaction towards my proposition. I only hope that everything works correctly and that students have fun at the same time they are learning.

My first impression

The first week at school has been really good, sincerely. I'm very pleased with the kids and all the teachers. Both pupils and teachers have helped me a lot in everything that I've needed and everybody has showed himself/herself very kindly at me. 

The school is small; it has 90 students (approximately) and they are distributed in cycles. During this week I've been able to see all the groups, so now I practically know all the kids and they know me too.

Truthfully, I'm very excited to realize my last school practise here, I feel like staying at home and this is a fact that is very positive and that make things easier at working time.
